Brass Monkey

A James Acton Thriller, Book #2

A nuclear missile, lost during the Cold War, is now in play–the most public spy swap in history, with a gorgeous agent the center of international attention, triggers the end-game of a corrupt Soviet Colonel’s twenty five year plan. Pursued across the globe by the Russian authorities, including a brutal Spetsnaz unit, those involved will stop at nothing to deliver their weapon, and ensure their pay day, regardless of the terrifying consequences.

When Laura Palmer confronts a UNICEF group for trespassing on her Egyptian archaeological dig site, she unwittingly stumbles upon the ultimate weapons deal, and becomes entangled in an international conspiracy that sends her lover, archeology Professor James Acton, racing to Egypt with the most unlikely of allies, not only to rescue her, but to prevent the start of a holy war that could result in Islam and Christianity wiping each other out.

From the bestselling author of Depraved Difference and The Protocol comes Brass Monkey, a thriller international in scope, certain to offend some, and stimulate debate in others. Brass Monkey pulls no punches in confronting the conflict between two of the world’s most powerful, and divergent, religions, and the terrifying possibilities the future may hold if left unchecked.

A James Acton Thriller, Book #1

For two thousand years the Triarii have protected us, influencing history from the crusades to the discovery of America. Descendent from the Roman Empire, they pervade every level of society, and are now in a race with our own government to retrieve an ancient artifact thought to have been lost forever.

Caught in the middle is archaeology professor James Acton, relentlessly hunted by the elite Delta Force, under orders to stop at nothing to possess what he has found, and the Triarii, equally determined to prevent the discovery from falling into the wrong hands.

With his students and friends dying around him, Acton flees to find the one person who might be able to help him, but little does he know he may actually be racing directly into the hands of an organization he knows nothing about…

Depraved Difference

Depraved Difference

Depraved Difference

Now an International Kindle Bestseller!

Would you help, would you run, or would you just watch?

When a young woman is brutally assaulted by two men on the subway, her cries for help fall on the deaf ears of onlookers too terrified to get involved, her misery ended with the crushing stomp of a steel-toed boot. A cell phone video of her vicious murder, callously released on the Internet, its popularity a testament to today’s depraved society, serves as a trigger, pulled a year later, for a killer.

Emailed a video documenting the final moments of a woman’s life, entertainment reporter Aynslee Kai, rather than ask why the killer chose her to tell the story, decides to capitalize on the opportunity to further her career. Assigned to the case is Hayden Eldridge, a detective left to learn the ropes by a disgraced partner, and as videos continue to follow victims, he discovers they were all witnesses to the vicious subway murder a year earlier, proving sometimes just watching is fatal.

From the author of The Protocol, Depraved Difference is a fast-paced murder suspense novel with enough laughs, heartbreak, terror and twists to keep you on the edge of your seat, then knock you flat on the floor with an ending so shocking, you’ll read it again just to pick up the clues.

1000th Copy of Depraved Difference Sold

It seems like only last week that I posted that the 500th copy had been sold (actually, it was last week).  It took two and a half months to accomplish that.  As of yesterday, only nine days later, I have sold another 500 copies, bringing the total to 1000.

I’d like to thank everyone again for all their support.  I guess the next milestone that makes sense is 2500 copies.  I wonder how long that will take?

Rob

A Remarkable Day

Here’s what happened yesterday:

  • In the first 12 hours, I sold more books than in all of April
  • In the entire day, I sold 127 books (my previous record was I think 39)
  • I hit #17 on the hourly Police Procedurals best sellers list (and am still there)
  • I hit #95 on the hourly Suspense best sellers list (this is the first time I’ve cracked that list, and am at #99 at the moment)
  • On the more stable daily lists, I hit #54 on the Police Procedurals, and #228 on the Suspense
  • EDIT: I hit #730 on the overall list of over 750,000 books.

So why did it happen?  I did some Googling to see if I could find a review or some mention of the book, but didn’t find anything yesterday.  I searched again today and did find something.  It appears I was the book of the day on a blog site:

http://ebooksforabuck.wordpress.com/2011/06/21/depraved-difference/

Needless to say, I’m very curious to see where things go from here.  I fully expect sales to not continue like yesterday (in fact, I’ve only sold 6 today, whereas I had sold over 30 at this point yesterday).  What I expect is for the sales to drop back to the 30-40 sales level that I’ve been experiencing, and then slowly climb as I move up the daily lists, and those that downloaded the sample during yesterday’s frenzy actually purchase the book over the coming days/weeks, and as more of the now 800 strong group of readers tell their friends.

One day spikes are nice, as they can create opportunities, but steady growth is the ultimate goal.  Any other sites out there wanting to feature Depraved Difference, please do!

Depraved Difference Gets Another 5 Star Review

Here’s the latest from Amazon UK:

5 out of 5 stars
This one is a keeper!

This review is from: Depraved Difference (A Detective Shakespeare Mystery) (Kindle Edition)

There are few books that I have read, which, while reading them, have made me literally exclaim “Oh my god” out loud, this is one of them. A brilliantly thought out plot with believable characters. I’ll be keeping this one on my Kindle to read again!

500th Copy of Depraved Difference Sold

I just sold the 500th copy of Depraved Difference on Amazon Kindle.  That doesn’t include the paperback which might be a couple of dozen, mostly hand sold.  As I’ve stated before, the paperback is of no concern to me, it is the eBook that is the future.

I read recently that they just up’d the average number of copies a title will sell over its lifetime from a paltry 100 copies, to a still paltry 150 copies, due to the explosion in eBooks.  Yes, you read that correctly.  The average book only sells 150 copies over its lifetime.

I’ve sold 500 in less than three months, with sales continually increasing (I’ve already sold over 250 this month, and we’re only half way through).  I keep thinking that the sales will slow down, but they don’t.  This could be the proof I’ve been looking for; once you get into that top 100 of a category, the sales take care of themselves.

I’d like to thank everyone for their support in getting to this milestone, and I look forward to letting you know when I break 1000 copies, which at this rate, might be far sooner than I expected!

Latest review is in and it’s another 5 star!

5 out of 5 stars  – Shock and awe!

I wasn’t sure what to expect having only one review to go by, but it didn’t take me long to become completely involved in this novel. I did nothing but read once I started it. I won’t spoil, but the ending blew me away! I will try to be patient while Robert works on his next work of art, but please don’t take too long and for God’s sake, let me know. I don’t want to miss it!

Depraved Difference now available on Nook

Barnes & Noble now  have the NOOK Book (eBook) edition of Depraved Difference available.  They also have the print edition.  Here are the links:

NOOK Book for only 99 cents

Paperback (at the best price I’ve seen yet of $10.04)

So if  you have a nook, there’s no excuse not to buy the eBook!  And come to think of it, if you have a pair of working eyes and fifteen bucks tops, you also have no excuse!

An Update

I keep getting emails asking how sales are going, and decided a quick post was in order.  In rapid-fire bullet form:

  • In the first 5 days of June, I outsold April.
  • I’ve sold 143 copies so far in June (it is now the evening of the 9th), almost equal to my May sales.
  • I’ve spent most of the past two weeks in the hourly top 100 for police procedurals in the US (Amazon.com).  At this moment in time, I sit at #89.
  • I peaked at #72 on this list, and #96 on the overall police procedural list that includes printed books.
  • I am selling anywhere from 6 to 25 copies a day.   A bad day used to be none, a good day 5.
  • I had thought this was related to the Memorial Day long weekend, but it has now stretched far beyond that.  I think the sales could be coming from the fact that I am in the top 100, so I am getting “discovered” and sampled by people, who then buy later.  If this is true, it would seem to confirm my theory that getting into the top 100 is key, and self-sustaining to a point.
  • The Police Procedurals list is only about 1600 books, so it won’t generate a huge amount of sales unless I can get much higher.
  • A few minutes ago the daily list was updated, and I went from 113 to 96th.   The higher on this list I go, the more likely I am to be discovered, since I am now at the bottom of page 8, as opposed to the middle of page 10 (which again was up from last week).
  • I found myself on the Suspense list as well (it took a lot of searching).  This list is much larger, closer to 20k books.
  • On the daily suspense list, I am #612.  As sales are driven by the PP list, I hope to move up the suspense list (I’ve moved up over 150 spots on this list during the past few days, with only a 19 spot move on the PP list).
  • The suspense list is big enough that if I could get near the top 100 on that, I think it would mean significant sales.
  • Ego stroke: seeing my book outselling books by Grisham and Crichton, amongst many other big names in the industry, is too impossibly cool to describe!

So that’s the latest news from the book selling front.
